WELAMUKOTUK ELDERS

Elders of Welamukotuk

At Welamukotuk First Nation, our Elders are the heart of our community. They are the keepers of our language, culture, and traditions, carrying the knowledge and stories of generations before us. Their wisdom guides our community forward while reminding us to stay grounded in who we are as Wolastoqiyik.

The Role of Elders

  • Knowledge Keepers – Elders share teachings, ceremonies, and stories that preserve our Wolastoqey identity and values.
  • Advisors & Mentors – They provide guidance to leadership, families, and youth, offering insight rooted in lived experience and cultural understanding.
  • Community Strength – Elders remind us of the importance of respect, humility, and kinship, helping maintain balance and harmony in our Nation.

Honouring Our Elders

We recognize the sacrifices our Elders have made and the resilience they have shown in the face of change and challenge. At community events, gatherings, and programs, our Elders are always honoured first. Their voices are central in decisions that impact our future, and their well-being is a community priority.
